Witnessing or being present at a traumatic death or accident
Being present when someone died suddenly or violently. Witnessing an accident, a medical emergency, or a death in a way that was traumatic and that stayed with you. Not the loss of someone you knew necessarily, but the experience of witnessing something that the mind struggles to process.
Being present for a sudden or violent death imprints something the mind was never designed to file smoothly. The scene can stay vivid while ordinary memories fade, returning at anniversaries or at nothing at all. Needing help with what you witnessed is not fragility. Witnessing is an experience, not a spectator seat, and it does real things to real people.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
