Surviving a house fire or home destruction
Losing your home to fire or other sudden destruction. The terror of the event itself and the loss of everything familiar that came after. Including fires where people were hurt or killed.
A fire takes shelter, belongings, and the unspoken belief that home will be there tomorrow, all in one night. The objects lost were not just objects. They were the physical archive of a life. Grieving them is legitimate, and so is the jumpiness around smoke, alarms, and leaving the stove on that tends to follow.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
