An effect of trauma

Loss of faith or not knowing what to believe anymore

Something happened and the belief system that held your world together stopped holding. Maybe it was faith in God, in people, in institutions, in the idea that life is fair or that good things happen to good people. Maybe it was a religion that harmed you directly. Maybe you just cannot find meaning in anything anymore and the world feels empty in a way it did not before. Spiritual injury is real whether or not you ever identified as religious. It is the loss of whatever gave your life shape and purpose, and not knowing what to put in its place.

It can sound like

“I lost my faith.” “I do not believe in anything anymore.” “My religion hurt me.” “I cannot find meaning.” “Everything feels pointless.”

If any of those sentences live in your head too, you are in good company here.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
