War, conflict, and organized violence

Being a civilian who lived through war or armed conflict

Living through war, civil conflict, or armed violence as a civilian. Not a soldier but someone whose life was inside it anyway. The bombings, the displacement, the loss, the fear, the constant uncertainty of living somewhere that was not safe.

Living through war without a uniform means the violence found you at home, in markets, on ordinary roads. Civilian survivors often feel their experience is discounted because they were not soldiers, as if proximity to war requires enlistment to count. It does not. You lived inside it. That is the whole qualification.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
