Institutional and systemic failure
Being placed on a forced psychiatric hold
Being taken to a psychiatric facility against your will. Having your freedom removed through a legal process that may have felt sudden, dehumanizing, or completely out of your control. Whether the hold was warranted or not, the experience of being involuntarily detained, stripped of autonomy, and placed somewhere without your consent carries its own weight and its own trauma.
Being taken somewhere against your will, stripped of your autonomy through a legal process, leaves marks whether or not anyone deems the hold justified. The helplessness of it, the doors that would not open, the decisions made about you without you. All of that lodges in the body. Your feelings about it are valid regardless of what the paperwork says.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
