Institutional and systemic failure
Being failed or harmed by the child welfare system
Being placed in foster care, group homes, or institutional settings that were unsafe. Being removed from family without adequate cause or support. Having CPS involved in your life in ways that caused more harm than they prevented. Being a child who needed protection and finding that the system meant to provide it made things worse.
The system that took you in when family could not, or should not, was supposed to be the safety net. When placements, caseworkers, or group homes caused new harm, the betrayal ran deeper for coming from the rescuers. Children of that system often grow up feeling processed rather than protected. You deserved protection. Getting paperwork instead was the system's failure, never yours.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
