Institutional and systemic failure

Being harmed or failed while in the military institution

Being harmed within the military institution itself. A chain of command that failed to protect you, covered up harm, or actively participated in it. Reporting something and having it go nowhere or being retaliated against for reporting. The institution of the military failing the people inside it.

Being failed by the military institution, the command that did not protect you, the report that went nowhere, the retaliation for speaking, is a betrayal by something you may have been willing to die for. That inversion cuts deep. Your service was real, and so was the institution's failure to deserve it.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
