An effect of trauma

Rage

Anger that comes fast, feels bigger than the situation, or has caused harm to relationships or situations. Sometimes the only emotion that was safe to express. Sometimes the fight response wired in so deep it activates before conscious thought. Anger that you do not always want and cannot always stop.

Anger this fast was built for a reason. It may have been the only emotion that was safe to show, or the one that kept threats at a distance, and it earned its place honestly. Now it fires when you do not want it to. Anger like that can be retrained without being shamed, and the retraining goes better in honest company.

It can sound like

“My anger is hard to control.” “I explode over small things.” “My anger scares people.” “I say things I do not mean.” “I am ashamed of how angry I get.”

If any of those sentences live in your head too, you are in good company here.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
