Institutional and systemic failure

Being harmed or failed by the medical system

Having your symptoms dismissed, minimized, or disbelieved by medical professionals. Receiving care that caused harm. Being denied treatment. Medical procedures that were traumatic. A healthcare system that failed to see you as a full human being deserving of proper care.

Being dismissed, disbelieved, or harmed by medicine teaches your body that seeking help is a gamble. Survivors of medical harm often delay care for years, weighing symptoms against the memory of what happened last time. That calculation is rational, and it is also a wound. Both things are true, and both deserve care from someone.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
