Loss and grief

Being kept from a child or grandchild you love

Someone deciding you do not get to see a child who matters to you, and you having no way to change it. A parent blocking contact, a family closing ranks, a court order, or a slow freeze that was never explained. The child is alive and growing up somewhere you are not. Including the years spent waiting for something to shift.

Grieving someone who is still alive does not work the way other grief works, because it never gets to finish. There is no point where it settles, only birthdays that pass and a phone that does not ring. People will tell you never to give up hope, and the hope is a large part of what makes this so heavy to carry. Here you will find people who understand that.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
