Loss and grief

Losing a close friend

The death of someone who was not family but was family. Friends whose loss is not always given the same space as family grief, whose absence leaves a hole that others sometimes fail to recognize as significant.

The world has no official role for a grieving friend. No leave from work, no seat reserved at the service. But friendship can be the deepest relationship a person has, and losing it deserves full mourning. If people around you failed to grasp what this loss was, people here will not. Family is not the only love that counts.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
