Loss and grief

Losing someone suddenly or violently

A death that came without warning. An accident, a crime, a sudden medical event. The shock that gets layered on top of grief. Not having had the chance to say goodbye or prepare.

A death with no warning splits life into before and after with brutal abruptness. Shock does strange things to grief, delaying it, fragmenting it, replaying the phone call or the knock on the door. If your mourning has not followed any recognizable pattern, that is because sudden loss does not offer one. However yours is unfolding, it is grief, and it is valid.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
