Neglect
Being cared for by someone whose untreated mental illness meant they could not really care for you
A parent or caregiver who was so consumed by their own untreated struggles that there was nothing left for you. Not cruelty, just absence. Which has its own kind of weight.
There is a particular grief in being raised by someone who was drowning in something you could not see and nobody named. You may have spent childhood feeling guilty for needing anything at all. That absence was not your fault, and the weight of it landed on you anyway. It is worth taking seriously now.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
