Loss and grief

Losing someone to a long illness and carrying that with you

Watching someone you love decline over time. Grieving them before they were gone. Carrying the weight of caregiving through that process and then losing them anyway. The exhaustion that grief finds at the end of that road.

Losing someone slowly means grieving twice, once through the long decline and again at the end, usually while too exhausted from caregiving to feel either one cleanly. If the death brought relief tangled into the sorrow, that is not a betrayal of them. It is what years of watching and tending do to a loving person, and it is safe to admit here.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
