War, conflict, and organized violence
Growing up in a community shaped by ongoing violence or conflict
Growing up somewhere where violence was not a single event but a constant background. Gang violence, civil conflict, ongoing community trauma. A childhood organized around staying safe in an environment that was consistently unsafe. The normalization of violence that happens when it is the water you grew up swimming in.
When violence was the background of childhood, the skills you built, reading corners, choosing routes, staying alert, were rational adaptations to a real environment. Nobody handed you a safe childhood to compare against. Recognizing that your normal was actually an emergency is often where healing starts, and plenty of people here started exactly there.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
