Emotional and psychological harm
Being emotionally controlled or isolated by a partner
A partner who controlled who you saw, where you went, what you wore, what you ate, how you spent money, or how you spoke. Control that did not always look like abuse from the outside but felt like a cage from the inside.
Control rarely announces itself. It arrives as devotion, tightens gradually, and by the time it looks like a cage the door has been shut for years. If you are out, or still finding your way out, the confusion about what was love and what was captivity is normal. People here have done that sorting and will not rush yours.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
