Emotional and psychological harm

Being emotionally blackmailed or manipulated through guilt

Someone who used your love, your fear, or your sense of obligation against you. Threats disguised as feelings. Guilt weaponized to control your behavior. Making you responsible for their emotional state and their choices.

When love is used as leverage, every close relationship afterward can feel like a debt waiting to be called in. Survivors of this often cannot tell care from obligation, or a request from a demand. Those instincts were installed by someone who profited from them. Relationships without invoices exist, and you deserve to experience some.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
