Emotional and psychological harm

Being humiliated publicly or privately in a sustained way

Being deliberately embarrassed, mocked, or shamed by someone with regularity and intent. In private where no one could see, or in front of others. Humiliation used as a tool to keep you small.

Deliberate humiliation is designed to shrink you, and it tends to succeed for a while. Long after, you may find yourself avoiding attention, deflecting praise, or bracing whenever eyes turn your way. Wanting to stay unseen was a reasonable response to being made a spectacle. So is deciding, slowly and on your own schedule, to be seen again.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
