Abandonment

Being cut off or rejected by your family

Being cast out, cut off, or rejected by your family of origin. Whether it happened suddenly or gradually. Whether it was driven by your identity, your choices, your refusal to comply, or reasons that were never made clear to you.

Being cast out by your own family breaks something the world assumes is unbreakable, which makes the grief hard to explain and easy for others to minimize. Holidays, emergencies, and ordinary Tuesdays all carry the absence. Chosen family is not a consolation prize. For many people here, it is where belonging finally became real.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
