Neglect

Being raised by someone who was physically present but checked out, depressed, grieving, or just gone inside

A parent who was there but not there. Not cruel, not addicted, just absent in a way that is hard to explain to people who did not live it. The lights were on but nobody was home, and you grew up in that silence.

A parent who was present in body and gone everywhere else leaves a silence that follows you into adulthood. People who grew up in that quiet often doubt their own memories because nothing dramatic ever happened. Absence is its own event. It happened to you daily, for years, and it counts.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
