Giving up or feeling like nothing will change
When nothing you did made a difference, when effort did not produce safety, when asking for help did not bring help, the nervous system eventually stops asking. Learned helplessness is not laziness or weakness. It is the logical conclusion of an environment that did not respond. Why try when trying never worked. The problem is that the environment changed and the nervous system does not always know that yet. The giving up that kept you sane then is keeping you stuck now.
