Physical violence
Watching someone die through violence or sudden injury
Being there when someone died in a way that was sudden, violent, or traumatic. Seeing something that cannot be unseen. Whether or not you knew the person, whether or not you understood what was happening as it happened, what your nervous system recorded that day did not simply go away when it was over.
Watching a violent or sudden death puts an image in you that does not obey the usual rules of memory. It can return uninvited, vivid and wrong, years later. Nobody walks away from seeing that unchanged, and needing help to carry it is not weakness. It is what any honest nervous system would ask for.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
