Being forced or pressured into a marriage you did not choose

Being married to someone you did not freely choose. Through force, through threats, through relentless family or community pressure, or because you were too young to consent to any of it. Including marriages that were framed as your decision when refusing was never actually on the table.

Consent that has nowhere to go is not consent, however it was recorded at the time. Naming this is complicated when the people responsible are people you may still love or still depend on, and that complication is understood here rather than judged.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
