Exploitation
Being financially abused or having your money or assets taken
Someone who took your money, controlled your access to finances, ran up debt in your name, stole from you, or left you financially devastated. A partner, a family member, a caregiver, or anyone else who used money as a weapon or a resource to extract.
Money is one of the quietest weapons, and having it stolen or controlled by someone you trusted rearranges more than a bank balance. Survivors often carry a private shame about being taken advantage of. The shame is misfiled. Trusting someone was not your error. Exploiting that trust was theirs.
Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
