An effect of trauma

OCD or intrusive thoughts

Intrusive thoughts that arrive without invitation and will not leave. Rituals or compulsions that bring temporary relief but never solve the underlying anxiety. Checking. Counting. Repeating. Organizing. Thoughts about harm, contamination, or things going wrong that feel impossible to dismiss. OCD is the nervous system trying desperately to create certainty in a world that taught it certainty was never safe to assume.

It can sound like

“I have thoughts I cannot turn off.” “I have to do things a certain way.” “I check things repeatedly.” “I have thoughts that horrify me.” “My rituals take over my day.”

If any of those sentences live in your head too, you are in good company here.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and nothing here decides what is wrong with you, because nothing is wrong with you. Something happened to you. This page exists so that when you are ready, you can find people who understand it from the inside.

You do not have to carry this alone.

Bridge of Hope Recovery is a free, anonymous, peer-led fellowship for trauma survivors. Meetings run throughout the week by phone, by video, and in person. No cost, no waitlist, no one asking for your real name.
